Siobhán Kavanagh is a vocal artist, composer and music educator working with voice, sampled sound, performance art and visual storytelling. Siobhán has studied vocals extensively training through classical and traditional singing, jazz and extended vocal techniques. Siobhán has been commissioned to compose original song and music for film, art exhibitions, dance performance, contemporary circus and experimental theatre. Siobhán is an interdisciplinary performer who works with musicians and visual artists across disciplines, taking a focused approach to collaborative practice. Siobhán has fronted many original bands and ensembles including: Lotus-Eater, Doom Opera, Sister’s Hyde & the Pesky Magpies, Rú Beag, Bamboozled and Macha.
Examples of Siobhán’s collaborative performance/sound art include: ‘LotusEater’ with Aoibheann Greenan (Projects Arts Centre 2013); ‘Doom Opera’ performed live at Séamus Nolan’s - F**K IMMA (IMMA chapel 2015); ‘Composition 1 -I Breathe, therefor..’ and ‘Composition 2 -Notes on Breathing & Space’ by Siobhán Kavanagh and Adam Gibney (The Sailors Home, Limerick and The Complex 2018). Siobhán has arranged and performed traditional song for three major artworks by Deirdre O’Mahony : ‘Song of the Farmer and Dung Beetle’ performed live with Michelle Doyle (Eco Show Boat and Kunstverien Aughrim 2023); ‘The Quickening’ film work (Douglas Hyde Gallery 2024) and ‘Border Song’ 2026.
Siobhán’s solo work is deeply rooted in themes of urban ecology and community inspired by stories of social movements and resistance. Works include ‘Up Jumps Johnny launched at (SEA Heart//Break - Kate O’Shea & Siobhán Kavanagh) O’ Riada Hall, 2022; ‘Sorrow Eaters’ launched at Guesthouse Project Cork in 2025. The current project ‘Terrestrial Sounds’ is a portable compost bin sound structure that broadcasts soundscape compositions combining dub reggae, acoustic ecologies and sampled interviews with ‘terrestrial’ occupants that reclaim and rewild urban green space in Dublin 8. In 2025 and 2026, Siobhán was commissioned by artist Kate O’ Shea to compose two sound works for the exhibitions ‘Jump Cuts’ (Walyalup Freemantle Arts Centre, Western Australia 2025) and ‘Mycelium’ (Visual, Carlow 2026).
